“Feldman did not compose with a predetermined plan except for the, to him crucial, initial instrumental choice of the string quartet and the extended length of the piece. (That this was a second quartet must also have determined him to go beyond the first.) The extended length would determine the kind of material to be used and the pacing of its use. The longer the piece, he used to say, the less material you start with. The less you give yourself to work with, the more you can focus and find the varieties of its use. And this focus staves off the distractions of vague emotion and the grander compositional ideas. You try to have the music write itself. Of course you know what you’re doing, but you work as close as possible to the experience of hearing the music for the first time.”

- Christian Wolff, album booklet

The DVD of course plays uninterruptedly, much truer to Feldman’s conception of the piece, but here is the chapter breakdown:

2) 5-9 (16:04)
3) 10-14 (12:08)

10) 42-46 (15:58)
11) 47-51 (12:31)
12) 52-54 (10:30)

14) 59-63 (16:02)

The ISO is packaged in 8 separate parts, 700 MB in size each, with an MDS to join them. I did this for those who store on CDs, although in this day and age it was probably unnecessary. If you’d like to join the parts to work with the proper single ISO, instead of burning them straight away, just open the MDS file with any ISO-editing software like PowerISO or MagicISO.

On account of the gigantic size and resulting 52 separate RS links it takes for one to get the ISO, I decided to also provide the option for those who don’t care about a proper DVD image, and rip the audio streams with DVD Decrypter and convert them to FLAC -8. Still, even then there are 33 RS links, but it does take out about 20 extra downloads.

My apologies to free users of RS :)

My method for ripping with DVD Decrypter is the norm: IFO mode, Enable Stream Processing, Demux. I also have included an Ogg Chapters file for those who wish to make a cue sheet; I myself don’t know how.
